Answer: No unified identity credential yet. GCKey and CanadaLogin are authentication systems (prove you’re the same returning user), not verified-identity credentials.
A separate platform, GC Issue and Verify, lets departments issue and verify digital versions of existing physical credentials (e.g., work permits, boating licences). Two pilot apps are live: GC Wallet (store credentials) and GC Verify (request/verify them) — both explicitly marked as pilot-stage, not public-ready.

Q: What percentage of the population is currently enrolled in the scheme?

Answer: No public figure located on canada.ca, digital.canada.ca, or in CDS annual reports for GCKey, CanadaLogin, or Sign In Canada specifically. Confirmed as a genuine reporting gap after this audit — provinces routinely publish this figure (e.g., Alberta, Yukon); no federal equivalent was found. Recommend a direct data request to ESDC/CDS.

Q: How many federal services can the credential access?

Answer: The Government of Canada currently offers more than 270 online services, accessed through more than 60 separate sign-in systems — this fragmentation is the explicit problem CanadaLogin is meant to solve. GCKey itself is accepted by dozens of federal departments and programs; the Canada Revenue Agency is a stated exception requiring a separate CRA User ID or a Sign-In Partner.
