VANCOUVER, BC, October 27, 2026.
DIACC Board member, Interac Corp. (Interac), has won the Business Value Award at the inaugural Global Digital Trust Awards for the use of the Interac Verified™ credential service in Canadian real estate. The winners were announced in Geneva, Switzerland on September 3 during the Global Digital Collaboration conference.
The awards recognize real-world deployments of verifiable credentials and digital wallets. This first edition drew 94 use cases from 29 countries and more than 210 organizations. An international jury of digital trust associations and community voting scored finalists across five categories, with more than 3,000 votes cast.
Interac Verified’s winning use case tackles a familiar problem in home buying. A purchase involves realtors, brokers, lenders and lawyers, and each has traditionally checked the buyer’s identity separately. With the Interac Verified credential service, a homebuyer verifies once through a participating Canadian financial institution, a scan of their accepted form of government-issued ID and taking a live selfie, then stores the credential in the Interac Verified app. The buyer consents each time they share their credential, and selective disclosure means each requesting party receives only the information it needs. First Canadian Title (FCT) embeds the verification into the real estate workflows professionals already use.
The service is in production and built on open international standards for issuing and presenting credentials, which supports interoperability beyond a single platform or sector.
“We are honoured to be recognized with the Business Value Award at the inaugural Global Digital Trust Awards. This recognition reflects the power of collaboration across Canada’s digital trust ecosystem and demonstrates how reusable, user-consented credentials can simplify complex processes like home buying while strengthening security, privacy, and consumer control” says Fatema Pirone, Head of Verified at Interac.
FCT’s Vice President, Strategy, Data, and Enterprise Product, Ryan Lambert added “Trust is the foundation of every real estate transaction. Our investment in reusable credentials and our partnership with Interac Verified is about making that trust stronger, more secure, and easier to carry across the homebuying journey.”
DIACC co-organized the awards with six associations: DIDAS, TeleTrusT, APDI, the Asia PKI Consortium, and FIDES. DIACC’s role included encouraging Canadian organizations to submit their work and inviting the Canadian community to vote.
“Interac’s recognition shows what Canadian organizations can achieve when reusable credentials are built on open standards and applied to something as consequential as buying a home,” said Joni Brennan, President of DIACC. “We’re proud of how the Canadian community showed up in Geneva, and grateful to everyone who voted.”
